If you’ve ever tried to use Apple© Pay to make a contribution on our website, you may have come up against a bit of a challenge. We’ve put this tutorial together to try and help you through that process =)
For some background: KBC uses a service (DonorBox©) to process donations through our internet portal. Our online Giving form is hosted and generated by this service, which is in turn presented to users of KBC’s website via “embedding” the form on our Give page. This protects against compromising personal and financial information during the transaction process. This also opens up various options for users when making contributions, such as the ability to select a recurring basis for giving, accessing various different payment options, and directing the funds to specific ministries, etc.
If you haven’t done so already, you need to set up Apple© Pay on your Apple© device. There is a great resource here which should guide you nimbly through that process. Once you’ve completed that, you’ll have to use your Apple© device with Safari (Apple© won’t allow the use of Chrome or any other browser for Apple© Pay) to navigate to KBC’s Online Giving Page. Once there, find the link highlighted here:
… and click to follow as indicated. This takes one directly to the KBC Give form which is hosted at DonorBox©. It’s exactly the same form you’ll use on our website, but presents the document in such a way to comply with Apple’s© requirement for websites which process payments through Apple© Pay. According to DonorBox©, “Due to Apple’s© strict domain matching security measure, Apple© Pay will not work on [DonorBox©] forms embedded in [KBC’s] website”. All of the available options are the same, with the exception that upon proceeding through to the “Payments” screen, Apple© Pay-enabled Safari users will be presented with a button, shown here:
… giving one the option to “Donate with [Apple] Pay”. Simply click the button to have Apple© Pay continue the transaction process using payment methods stored in the user’s Apple© Wallet, as shown here:
Simply choose the preferred card, then follow Apple© Pay instructions to complete the process. It is worth noting here that Apple© Pay users must have Touch ID (shown) and/or Face ID authentication enabled in order to complete the transaction using those features; otherwise the user’s PIN is required.
While researching this process we had one beta user who was unsuccessful attempting this from their Mac, but was able to complete using their iPhone. Undoubtedly this hinged on an unknown setting or condition, of which we as PC users were unaware. Doubtless there will be other hitches, and we look forward to your feedback in Comments to this Post in accounting for them. We will faithfully address these situations and change this tutorial accordingly.
Thanks, and God bless you =)
